Jake Gyllenhaal Thinks Ryan Reynolds Should Have Been Nominated for an Oscar

Jake Gyllenhaal has some thoughts about the Oscars, but they might not be for who you think.

At a Q&A for Nocturnal Animals, Gyllenhaal was asked if he thought anyone was missing from the nominations. Though he could have said “Yeah, me! I killed it in Nocturnal Animals you dicks!” He chose to be more civil.

Jake feels that Ryan Reynolds should be getting the Oscar glory for his performance in Deadpool. He said, “I look at Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and I say, ‘No one can do that but him.’ That is truly, purely him. As an artist he struggled for several years to figure that out and it’s all there on the screen. And it’s brilliant.”

Jake raises a pretty good point. Especially considering that the movie would have never been made without Reynolds and I’m hard-pressed to think of any other actor who’d come close to making the anti-hero work so well.

I’d love to see more actors getting nominated for something other than playing victims of abuse, stoic heroes, and jazz musicians. Comedy and action are hard. You don’t get too many crying scenes to prove your grand acting skills, but you have to do a lot of other s**t to make a comedic movie work.

So, Ryan Reynolds, know that you’ll always have an Oscar in Jake Gyllenhaal’s mind. Really, that’s just as good as an actual statue.
