Taran Killam — Trump ‘Strugged to Read’ and ‘Didn’t Get the Jokes’ at SNL Appearance

If you watched the Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Donald Trump prior to the election, you probably hated yourself after the show.

It truly may have been the worst episode in the show’s history, which covers a lot of ground. Not only was Trump a terrible host who barely said anything and clearly didn’t want to be there. He was babied by the SNL writers and cast members who didn’t want to upset him. Instead of focusing on the issues and statements of Trump, they acted like it was an honor to have him on the show and that he had never done anything wrong.

Like so many cast members have done since that episode, Taran Killam placed the blame on Trump.

Killam told Brooklyn Magazine that Trump, “struggled to read” and then flat out said, “The President is a moron.”

Yeah. Man, I just remembered that you were on last year when he hosted—I don’t even wanna ask about that.
It was not fun, and most of the cast and writers were not excited to have him there. I didn’t get the feeling that he was excited to be there, and it felt like a move for ratings from both sides. He was…

Unpleasant?
He was… everything you see. What you see is what you get with him, really. I mean, there was no big reveal. He struggled to read at the table read, which did not give many of us great confidence. Didn’t get the jokes, really. He’s just a man who seems to be powered by bluster.

This might be true, but it still doesn’t excuse SNL from having him host the show in the first place. They knew what they were getting into when they invited him to host, but they ignored it for ratings and publicity.

Trump hosting SNL was a 90-minute campaign ad for him. He knew it and he took advantage of it. Who is the real moron in this situation?
