‘Judge Dredd’ Coming to Live-Action TV

Finally, more reality tv news. The British comic book legend Judge Dredd will make his way to the TV screen. If you don’t remember, Dredd is the dude who patrols a 22nd century metropolis and acts as the judge, jury and executioner. Also, this is a British comic? Never knew.

The show’s still in the early stages of development. It’ll be called Judge Dredd: Mega City One. There aren’t any stars or other concrete information other than the publisher and studio really want this to happen.

Entertainment Weekly can exclusively reveal that independent entertainment studio IM Global and independent U.K. games developer and publisher Rebellion have struck a deal to turn the iconic comic book character into a live-action TV show called Judge Dredd: Mega City One.

This will be a live action show, not animation. It will also be filmed in the UK.

One of the details that has surfaced is that it won’t focus solely on Judge Dredd. It’ll center on a team of Judges who all clean up a messy world. That makes sense because it’s way easier to have a spin-off with many Judges rather than one.

To make them more human, they should also give each Judge a weird phobia like ablutophobia, i.e. the fear of bathing.

Judge Dredd has been on the movie screens in the past. In 1995, Sylvester Stallone played him in Judge Dredd. Karl Urban took over the role in 2012’s Dredd. If you wanna go watch either, just know Dredd has 78% on Rotten Tomatoes and Stallone’s version is at 18%.

Producer Mark Stern says:

“This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age…Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris [the comic book publishers] in adapting this for television.”

He ended his statement with five dollar signs.
