Nicki Minaj Using Cardi B’s Name to Make More Money

Just a week after Cardi B dropped her debut album Invasion of Privacy, Nicki Minaj released two songs as a way to keep her name out there.

The two have been linked together ever since they appeared on Migos’ track “MotorSport.” Reports of a feud were exaggerated, but there’s only one throne fit for a queen.

Appearing on Beats 1 with Zane Lowe (via Vulture), Minaj gave her true feelings about Cardi.

“The only thing with Cardi that really, really, really hurt my feelings was the first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out. With ‘MotorSport,’ I kinda felt ambushed,” she says. “The first thing that came out of her mouth about a Nicki Minaj feature was ‘she changed the verse’ … When it was time to clear the air about that, no one did that. All of them allowed me to look like I lied.”

To put this in laymen’s terms, Cardi accused Minaj of changing her verse once she heard Cardi’s verse. This isn’t uncommon in rap. If an artist is a lead feature on a track and they feel shown up, they will change their original first.

The original track featured just Quavo and Minaj. So there is smoke to the fire that Minaj recorded one verse and changed it once the rest of Migos’ and Cardi’s were added to the track.

Minaj continued by basically calling Cardi fake.

“Up until this recent interview that she did, I had never seen her show me genuine love. I could just imagine how many girls wish they could have been on a song with Nicki Minaj. I’m not saying it in a cocky way, but yikes … It’s because of the Nicki hate train that she felt like she could speak about me in that manner.”

Minaj did not appear in the “MotorSport” video due to a scheduling conflict, which fueled more rumors of a feud. Minaj was once again upset that Migos and Cardi did not defend her.

While she claims to have moved past the feud, a recent tweet begs to differ.

On the track “Barbie Tingz” Minaj raps:

Mad bitches tell they team make ’em like Barbie
Had to come off IG so they can’t stalk me
All they do is copy looks, steal music too
Want to see what bitches do when they lose the blue(print).

Cardi has not responded to any shots thrown by Nicki, probably because she’s too busy breaking records.

While a feud between two female rappers makes for a good story, there’s room in the music industry for both. Rap culture promotes competition though. It’s been that way since MC battles back in the ’80s and it’ll be that way until the end of time.

Nicki and Cardi are big enough, and good enough, to where both will survive any type of feud. This isn’t a Nicki-Remy Ma situation where Remy was over her non-mainstream head.

Both ladies benefit from talking about the other. And they know it.
