The Rock’s Mother and Cousin Were Struck Head-On by a Drunk Driver

The Rock’s mom, Ata Maivia-Johnson, and cousin, Lina Fanene, were returning from a charity event in Clermont, Florida on August 2 when they were in a head-on collision August 2. Dwayne “The Rock’ Johnson posted a photo of the aftermath. It looked like two cars trying to eat each other. Both women survived but Rock spoke out about the incident writing:

My mom and cousin (Lina Fanene) were struck head on by a drunk driver this week – they survived. My first reaction was to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is that my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days. Hug your own family that much tighter today and be grateful you can look them in the eyes and say, “I love you”. Bear hugs and gratitude. Drunk driving accidents are 100% preventable. #ChoicesMatter

TMZ has new details in the case. The Sheriff’s department says an officer was attempting a traffic stop when the driver took off and ran a red light. Sheriffs began following the driver and that’s when they hit the car. The drunk driver suffered facial injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Let this be a lesson to everyone. Don’t drink and drive and if you do, don’t think you’re able to outrun the cops because when has that ever worked out for anyone?
