Viola Davis Used to Jump in Maggot Filled Dumpsters

At Variety’s Power of Women event where she was honored for her work with the Hunger Is campaign, two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis, 41, talked about being so poor that she had to dumpster dive into maggot filled garbage for food.

“I was one of the 17 million kids in this country who didn’t know where the next meal was coming from, and I did everything to get food,” shared the “How to Get Away with Murder” actress.

“I have stolen for food,” added the mother of one. “I have jumped in huge garbage bins with maggots for food. I have befriended people in the neighborhood, who I knew had mothers who cooked three meals a day for food, and I sacrificed a childhood for food and grew up in immense shame.”

Viola Davis and I both seem to have had a rough childhood. She had to eat maggot infested garbage food, my mom never cut off the crust from my sandwiches. We’re practically twins.
