Larry Wilmore’s ‘Nightly Show’ Axed By Comedy Central

Considering I don’t know anybody who watches this and I don’t watch it, I’m not surprised.

According to Variety, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is getting axed after this Thursday’s episode. Comedy Central is struggling really hard after losing Stephen Colbert to CBS and Jon Stewart to the call of the wild. No one really likes Trevor Noah as the new Jon Stewart either. It turns out you can’t really replace either of those dudes. Shocking.

The Nightly Show failed to pick up with audiences so hard that in its place they are putting Chris Hardwick’s pop culture quiz show @Midnight on in its 11:30pm slot. That’s right, it’s being replaced by reruns of a show called @Midnight that’s not even going on at midnight. Comedy Central Prez Kent Alterman had this to say:

“We hold Larry in the highest esteem, personally and professionally. He brought a strong voice and point of view to the late-night landscape. Unfortunately it hasn’t resonated with our audience.”

What’s gonna happen in its place? They don’t really know. It could be something cool, it could just be @Midnight on at the wrong time forever. Considering that the modern TV landscape is mostly just uninspired garbage, I’m guessing it will be the second thing.

RIP The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
