In 1983, Tim Burton adapted Hansel and Gretel into a short film that aired only once on the Disney channel on Halloween night. Last week, it resurfaced on the web for everyone to watch. The film was shot on a budget of $116,000 on 16mm and is every bit as Tim Burton-y as you’d expect. As a result of Burton’s fascination with Japanese culture at the time, the short film featured a cast of amateur Japanese actors, kung fu fights and Japanese toys.
Apparently Burton was embarrassed about the film which is why it’s been virtually impossible to find until now. It’s also no wonder why it only aired once on the Disney channel considering how full of WTF it is.
