Judge Denies Kevin Spacey’s Request to Skip Court Appearance

Since police obtained video evidence in their investigation of  Kevin Spacey’s alleged assault of an 18-year-old, Spacey has been trying to get a recusal from having to appear in court. He was given a resounding “no” from the judge.

While Spacey plan is to plead not guilty, he expressed that he shouldn’t have to appear in-person for his arraignment. In the filing, Spacey argued that his appearance in court would “amplify the negative publicity already generated in connection with this case” and  “heighten prejudicial media interest in the case.”  Thankfully, the judge for this case is wise to Kevin Spacey’s bullshit and said, “No dice.”

Given that Spacey has been on the receiving end of multiple sexual misconduct accusations, released a creepy, sociopathic video defending himself, and now that there’s documented proof of him committing assault, I don’t think his “negative publicity” can get substantially worse. Staying hidden and not showing his face in court will not do anything to quell the negativity that he’s ultimately responsible for. Good on the judge for not letting Spacey hide out like a coward.

For the first time in his entire career, Spacey is going to have to take responsibility for his actions. Let him face his victim in court; his celebrity can’t protect him this time.
