Shanina Shaik Says There’s No Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show This Year

Ah, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. One of the sacred days of reflection for men everywhere. I guess some women watch it too, for some reason, but I feel like if they were actually trying to advertise lingerie they wouldn’t have the giant elaborate angel wing rigs on the models. And let’s face it, we’ve all known way more men who get the Victoria’s Secret catalogue than women.

But this year men will just have to turn to internet porn on that holiest of days because according to model Shaina Shaik, there isn’t going to be a Victoria’s Secret runway show this year. Via Allure:

“Unfortunately, the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year,” said Shaik. According to her, the company is “trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show.” Allure has reached out to Victoria’s Secret for comment.

In May, L Brands’ chief executive, Leslie Wexner, announced a rebranding in an internal memo. “Fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow. With that in mind, we have decided to re-think the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show,” the memo read. “In 2019 and beyond, we’re focusing on developing exciting and dynamic content and a kind of event — delivered to our customers on platforms that she’s glued to…and in ways that will push the boundaries in the global digital age.”

As I alluded to earlier, they’re competing with internet porn, but it’ll probably be back soon because the angel thing is a pretty big branding deal for Victoria’s Secret. Even if people aren’ watching it as much, it’s out there in the zeitgeist.

In the mean time, though, if we want to see Shanina Shaik in her underwear we’ll just have to check Instagram.

I’m kind of surprised fashion shows are still a thing. Just send your insane costumes to Instagram models, you’ll probably get more eyeballs on it for way less money.

Such convenience.
