$120K Taped to the Wall Banana Art Piece Stolen and Eaten

Someone is having serious buyer’s remorse over paying $120,000 for that duct taped to the wall banana. The piece was shown at Art Basel in Miami. Maurizio Cattelan designed the piece, called “The Comedian.”

He also designed a $6-million, 18-carat gold toilet. That toilet was eventually stolen from England’s Blenheim Palace. All this goes to show art collectors have way too much money.

On Saturday, performance artist David Datuna took the banana off the wall, peeled it and ate it. Now that is art I can appreciate. So thought provoking. Someone should then take the banana he shits out and tape it back to the wall.

The gallery owner seems to be taking the incident in stride.

Perrotin Gallery spokesman Lucien Terras told the Herald that Datuna did not “destroy” the artwork because “the banana is the idea.”

Emmanuel Perrotin, the gallery founder, told CBS News that Maurizio’s work is not just about objects, but about how objects move through the world.

“How objects move through the world.” Goes along with my pooping idea perfectly.
