Netflix Pulls ‘Chappelle’s Show’ Because Dave Chappelle Got Screwed

Dave Chappelle really hates Comedy Central. If you’ve seen The Bird Revelation you’ll know that Chappelle told a long story about a pimp and the way he tricked a prostitute into staying in the selling sex game when she was ready to get out and said that’s why he walked away from Chappelle’s Show; the obvious analogy there is he was tired of getting fucked.

If you needed any more evidence for this theory, Dave Chappelle got pissed that Netflix was streaming Chappelle’s Show because Dave apparently isn’t getting royalties or residuals from the show.

Via Variety:

“They (ViacomCBS) didn’t have to pay me because I signed the contract,” Chappelle said in the video. “But is that right? I found out that these people were streaming my work and they never had to ask me or they never have to tell me. Perfectly legal ‘cause I signed the contract. But is that right? I didn’t think so either. That’s why I like working for Netflix. I like working for Netflix because when all those bad things happened to me, that company didn’t even exist. And when I found out they were streaming ‘Chappelle’s Show,’ I was furious. How could they not– how could they not know? So you know what I did? I called them and I told them that this makes me feel bad. And you want to know what they did? They agreed that they would take it off their platform just so I could feel better.”

Clearly, Netflix would rather have a good relationship with Dave than whatever they would gain from streaming Chappelle’s Show, and people can probably get it through other means if they’d like to watch it. I’m not advocating piracy, but clearly, Dave Chappelle won’t be the person losing money if people do pirate the series.
