KTLA’s Sam Rubin interviewed Samuel L. Jackson for the new RoboCop remake. It didn’t go so well. You see, Rubin prepares for interviews by staring aimlessly into his bowl of Cheerios every morning.
Things get awkward right from the get-go when he begins his Sam Jackson interview with, “Are you surprised the phone rings as much as it does?” A minute later, he asked if Sam got a lot of reaction to that Super Bowl commercial. You know, the one starring Laurence Fishburne. “What Super Bowl commercial?,” asked Sam. A few awkward moments later Rubin realized it was Fishburne and apologized. But it was too late. The damage was done.
Jackson spent the next few minutes telling Rubin all the black people he’s not and asking, “What’s in your wallet?,” a reference to the Capital One commercial he IS in. The whole time Rubin looks like he’s about to piss himself because not only did he confuse Jackson with Fishburne but now he’ll be called a racist forever even though that’s simply not true. Some of his best friends are black people. Like Denzel Washington. Rubin loved him in Amistad and Shawshank Redemption. Brilliant actor.
Sam Rubin then explained himself. Riiiight. Sure, Sam.
