Shannen Doherty — ‘Yes, I Have Breast Cancer’ and Guess Who She Blames?

Damn, bad day for Beverly Hill 90210 cast members. First came news of Brian Austin Green’s separation from Megan Fox. Now, Shannen Doherty, the ice queen of the 90’s, confesses she has breast cancer. Watch out, Ian Ziering, horrible news may be coming your way as well. Oh wait, you’ve been starring in Sharknado? My bad, you’ve already been hit with some crappy times.

Doherty, 44, confided to People, and its millions of readers, that she indeed has breast cancer. She actually probably wasn’t going to admit it. However, the info came out during an ongoing lawsuit against her business manager. More on that later.

“Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment,” the actress said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.

“I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life,” she continued. “I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”

Fans? The hundred or so people who heard the news felt a twinge of sadness, then asked, “Which one was she?” Brenda, she played Brenda Walsh.

So about that lawsuit, supposedly Doherty’s business manager took 5% of her earnings. Among their responsibilities, they paid her medical insurance premiums. Well, Doherty says they missed a premium payment for 2014. That caused her to lose her insurance for 2014 and forced her to wait until 2015 to re-enroll. Even stars get screwed by insurance companies. Wasn’t there any grace period? Don’t you know who Shannen Doherty is??

Doherty says that since she didn’t have insurance for 2014, she didn’t get her regular checkups like she usually does. Aaaaand, unfortunately, that’s when her breast cancer supposedly spread. She found this out in March 2015 when she got her insurance back and visited her doctor. She was told that she had “invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node.” Now, she’ll likely have a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

So, she blames her breast cancer on her business manager. The reasoning being that if she did have her insurance, she would’ve gone to her checkup. Presumably, they would’ve found the cancer. And if I was 6’4″ and rich and a DJ, I would’ve been dating Taylor Swift. Woulda, woulda, woulda.

Let me put on my legal hat here. *hold on* It’s right behind the aluminum foil one. I’d say, hmmm…lawsuit gets thrown out. Just because her business manager messed up, she can’t shift the blame to someone us.

Sucks that she has breast cancer, but karma maybe? This is what former co-star, Jason Priestley, said about her in his book, Jason Priestley: A Memoir. He recalled one incident back during the 90210 days. The studio sent the cast to New York to meet with advertisers and Doherty was quite dismissive about her transportation.

“I could not believe my ears at Shannen’s very first words after she boarded…Her butt had barely hit her seat before she said loudly to the PR person, ‘Really? A town car? You send a town car to take me to the airport, not a limo?’ She sighed a very put-upon sigh. I laughed, as I couldn’t really tell if Shannen was kidding or not.”

“That was just the beginning. I looked on, becoming more uneasy by the minute as she began bitching about the short notice and the food on board and the temperature in the cabin and everything else.”

Diiiva. No one should ever get cancer. It’s horrible for the person and their family. There’s a lot of pain and suffering involved for everyone. But, if anyone was to get cancer, start with the douchebags of the world? *raises hands* Just thinking out loud here.
