The Oscar nominations are out

Have you guys heard about this Oscar thing that happens around this time of year? Apparently it’s a very big deal to a lot of people in Hollywood. I thought I should mention a little something about it. Your nominees are as follows, my picks in bold:

Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart”
George Clooney in “Up in the Air”
Colin Firth in “A Single Man”
Morgan Freeman in “Invictus”
Jeremy Renner in “The Hurt Locker” – The only other film I saw here was Up in the Air, but Hurt Locker was so much cooler.

Performance by an actor in a supporting role

Matt Damon in “Invictus”
Woody Harrelson in “The Messenger”
Christopher Plummer in “The Last Station”
Stanley Tucci in “The Lovely Bones”
Christoph Waltz in “Inglourious Basterds” – Why is anyone from The Lovely Bones even up here? Didn’t that movie suck?

Performance by an actress in a leading role

Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side” – Haven’t seen any of these movies, but Sandra Bullock needs a pity Oscar.
Helen Mirren in “The Last Station”
Carey Mulligan in “An Education”
Gabourey Sidibe in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”
Meryl Streep in “Julie & Julia”

Performance by an actress in a supporting role

Penélope Cruz in “Nine”
Vera Farmiga in “Up in the Air”

Mo’Nique in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” – Only to watch her attempt to climb the stairs to accept her award and when she finally makes it up and catches her breath, her speech time runs out.

Best animated feature film of the year

“Up” – This movie was pretty cool even though I fell asleep during it and had to re-watch parts of it. Wait. Maybe Fantastic Mr. Fox would have been a better pick.

Best motion picture of the year

“The Hurt Locker”
“Inglourious Basterds” – I’d go with District 9 because that movie is so awesome, but so was this movie so I don’t know. I flipped a coin. Avatar will probably take it though since everyone is in love with their 9 foot tall blue cats.

“Inglourious Basterds” – Only because The Hurt Locker had some serious flaws in it like why they didn’t have me play every part. Times magazine called me the premiere super soldier of 2009.

The rest of the nominees here. Avatar will probably go on to win a bunch of awards making James Cameron that much more conceited. They should lock his movie out just to knock him down a peg or two. Don’t want him getting a big head or nothin’.
