Levar Burton must be crying like a 10-year-old who got kicked in the nuts because the outpouring of support he’s gotten for his Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign has exceeded all expectations. Burton wanted to create a web version of Reading Rainbow and looked to Kickstarter for a, er, kickstart.
He originally wanted to raise $1 million but he reached that in less than a day. A week ago, Seth McFarlane said he’d match up to $1 million in pledges over the $4 million mark.
As of now, people have pledged over $5.4 million from 105,857 backers making it the most backers for a Kickstarter project ever. The previous record was held by Veronica Mars which had 91,585 backers.
If you’re wondering why so many people would back this, it’s because almost all the backers grew up with Reading Rainbow and know that Levar Burton isn’t some pretentious asshole trying to flip other people’s money into profit for himself. *coughZachBraffcough*
