James Van Der Beek Plays ‘Diplo’ in Viceland’s First Scripted Series

If you have ever wondered ‘What Would Diplo Do?,’ get ready for six episodes of Viceland’s latest show about some weird meta-parody Diplo played by Diplo himself. So, what the f**k is this gonna be like? Well, according to Deadline:

In WWDD, described as “Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap, Van Der Beek plays a fictional version of DJ superstar Diplo in a collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet… but kind of sucks one-on-one.

Incredible. That used to Mariah Carey, but now she sucks both in person and on stage.

Honestly, as a bitter 54-year-old divorced dad in the body of a young woman, I have listened to way more Jethro Tull than Diplo, but even I am sold on this. Van Der Beek told Deadline:

“The show doesn’t take itself too serious but it’s not cynical.”

Check out the promo for Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Party from last year, the whole thing sprung from below.
