‘SNL’ Writer Suspended Over Vicious Barron Trump Tweet

SNL has upset Trump supporters again, but this time Alec Baldwin had nothing to do with it.

Writer for the show Katie Rich recently tweeted “Barron Trump will be the country’s first homeschool shooter.”

The tweet only lasted for 3 hours before Rich deleted it after a facing a barrage of criticism. People were so upset, a petition to get her fired from SNL gained 80,000 signatures over the weekend.

Rich has since tweeted an apology.

“I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.”

But it looks like it might be too little, too late.

The Wrap reports that Katie Rich has been suspended indefinitely from the show. After Rich’s name was left off the credit of the latest episode, some speculated about her status and an insider for The Wrap confirmed that she was suspended immediately after the tweet. As of now, the suspension is indefinite.

I’ve joked about Barron Trump in an article before about an odd picture of him that got public attention and it wasn’t right. He is just a child and though he’s been thrust into the spotlight, he shouldn’t face the same ridicule as the adults in his life that have put him there. That was my fault for trying to be a snarky bitch instead of protecting a child.

Though it’s troubling that anybody should get fired just for tweeting, it was a surprisingly vicious joke.

Whether firing is too extreme, I’m perfectly fine with having a rule to not make fun of any children, even if they are kid’s of some of the most mockable people in history.
