David Beckham was a victim of an e-mail hack over the weekend that makes him look a little dickish.
Hackers blackmailed Beckham for a million euros in exchange for not releasing his embarrassing emails. Apparently, he didn’t agree because the emails were public by Saturday night.
What embarrassment did the emails hold? Well, they make it seem like Beckham has only been doing charity work to get a knighthood and that he’s pissed he doesn’t have one yet.
One alleged email quoted Beckham as saying,
They r a bunch of c***s. I expected nothing less. Who decides on the honors?? It’s a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would have got something like this 10 years ago.
In other emails he allegedly criticizes the other people receiving knighthoods and complains about having to match the highest donations at a Unicef charity auction.
Beckham completely denies the story. He says he’s proud of his work for charities and these emails partially doctored and taken out of context. Beckham’s representative stated,
This story is based on outdated material taken out of context from hacked and doctored private emails from a third party server and gives a deliberately inaccurate picture.
Hopefully, these emails are inaccurate and Unicef is standing behind him. He’s worked hard for the charity for years and though they made no comment on the emails, they describe Beckham as “as generously giving his time, energy and support to help raise awareness and funds for Unicef’s work for children.”
I may be desensitized, but this email leak seems pretty lame. Even if it is true, he still donated a shitload of time and money to a charity. So what if his intentions weren’t true. His money was.
