Papa John’s Doesn’t Want White Supremacists Eating Their Pizza

For reasons that I find completely inexplicable, people are still mad about the fact that some NFL players are kneeling during the national anthem to protest police racism, despite the fact that only 18 players protested this week.

Also ABC News is reporting on how many players were protesting. Can we just go back to ten years ago when players took the field after the anthem was finished? At some point the money the armed forces are paying you to pretend to be patriotic is going to end up being a net negative, right?

Papa John’s, the official pizza of the NFL, believes that being the official pizza of the NFL is hurting their sales. According to Business Insider, investors started short-selling Papa John’s stock, meaning they were betting on it losing value, in the spring, long before the NFL season started and people started losing their damn minds over a few players kneeling. Also, Pizza Hut and DiGiorno both reported their sales are up.

I’ll bet you thought this story couldn’t get any sillier, didn’t you? Well, that’s where you’re wrong. For some reason, white supremacists decided Papa John’s was their brand of choice. I’m not following the logic. NFL players protest racism by the police, people get mad at the NFL because of the protests, Papa John’s blames falling sales on people being mad, racists decide “he’s clearly with us”. But they did. They took to the Internet to declare Papa John’s “the official pizza of the alt-right”.

Peter Collins, a spokesperson for Papa John’s was then forced to comment to The Huffington Post about this turn of events. “We condemn racism in all forms and any and all hate groups that support it. We do not want these individuals or groups to buy our pizza.” Yeah, that’s 2017 for you, the year pizza brands are saying they don’t want racists to eat their pizza because of the NFL.
