Pete Davidson might be criminally underused on Saturday Night Live — although that’ll probably change this season with that Ariana Grande boost — but that doesn’t stop him from firing back at Chevy Chase.
Last week, Chase buried SNL to the Washington Post.
“First of all, between you and me and a lamppost, jeez, I don’t want to put down Lorne or the cast, but I’ll just say, maybe off the record, I’m amazed that Lorne has gone so low. I had to watch a little of it, and I just couldn’t f—— believe it.
“That means a whole generation of shitheads laughs at the worst f—— humor in the world,” he says. “You know what I mean? How could you dare give that generation worse s**t than they already have in their lives? It just drives me nuts.”
Appearing on The Howard Stern Show (transcript via Page Six), Davidson offered a response.
“He’s a f—king douchebag,” Davidson muttered. “F—k Chevy Chase … he’s just a genuinely bad, racist person and I don’t like him. He’s a putz.
“What has he done since ’83? Nothing,” he added. “He had a big career and then it stopped because everybody realized he’s a jerkoff. He should know more than anybody. It’s disrespectful to Lorne [Michaels] too, a guy who gave you a career. No matter how big you get, you can’t forget what that guy did for you.”
In fairness to Chevy, he did do some things after 1983. Specifically, he was a big part of Community. Before, you know, he went all racist as Donald Glover surpassed him. Also, Three Amigos was good. Otherwise, looking at Chevy’s IMDB page, yeah, his post-1983 career makes Robert De Niro’s post-Meet The Parents career look like Denzel Washington’s entire career.
“What has he done since ’83?” Fletch. Three Amigos. Spies Like Us. Christmas Vacation. Memoirs of an Invisible Man (worth noting for being a strange John Carpenter film), then a minor drought – Vegas Vacation is fun, then another drought from 1998 to 2009 when he landed the Community gig, but he hasn’t exactly endeared himself with the TV/film world since. Who knows what the quality is of the several projects he’s working on now. In comparison, Davidson will be lucky to have 1/10th the career of Chevy. He may wind up being remembered as little more than Tattooed Dude… Read more »
