Britney Spears is Trapped in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ According to Makeup Artist

Margaret Atwood wrote The Handmaid’s Tale in 1985 based mainly on the idea that the growing power of the religious right under Ronald Reagan could turn America into a theocracy like Saudi Arabia; it was never something likely to happen, but Atwood based her books on how it might and what it would look like if Christianity were the basis of an absolute totalitarian state.

The one thing everyone knows about the book is the Handmaid’s themselves, who in Atwood’s story are the concubines of elite men assigned to bear their children. This is how Britney Spears’ makeup artist Maxi describes the singers’ life to Us Magazine.

“I can tell you what they’re still controlling to this day is whether she has a baby or not, whether she gets married or not, who her friends are, and those are some big things,” Maxi claimed during a recent episode of the “Calababes Podcast,” released on Thursday, October 22. “We’re talking about some Handmaid’s Tale-type things to keep her from having a baby. Like, we’re talking … I can’t detail it and I’m not gonna specifically say, but I will say for sure, she would’ve had a baby by now. She would’ve probably been married to [boyfriend] Sam [Asghari] by now. She would have groups of friends around her.”

That’s not exactly what The Handmaid’s Tale is like, but it also doesn’t sound great. I don’t know how you control her having a baby, is she being forced to take birth control? Is Jamie running in and ripping her boyfriend’s penis out of her vagina so she doesn’t get pregnant? If there’s one thing everyone should have learned when they were in high school it’s that parents can’t stop their children from having sex.

Maxi also detailed how Jamie tried to keep Britney from dating Sam to begin with.

“At that time, she was under the conservatorship basically controlled by the father, but even at that time she was able to bring in Sam as a boyfriend,” he alleged. “Now Sam was put through hell by the father and I can’t detail all the things that he went through, but he went through a lot of hell to even be with her.”

It’s more mounting evidence that Spears shouldn’t be in conservatorship and if she is, her father shouldn’t be the conservator. She probably does need some help with some decisions, but she can hire people she trusts to help her make those decisions instead of the court allowing her father to make all of them for her.
