Leah Remini Thinks Tom Cruise’s COVID Freakout Was an Act

Leah Remini is a very interesting person if you’re interested in Scientology. Her personality used to mostly be “I’m a Scientologist” and now it’s mostly “I used to be a Scientologist and I hate them now,” which, admittedly, is a much better personality to have than the first one.

Remini really doesn’t trust Tom Cruise in particular and seems to believe Cruise’s response to COVID-19, and Scientology’s response as a whole is an act to curry goodwill with the public.

Via Uproxx:

Tom does not care about the families of his crew; this is all for publicity. Tom does not believe in family values. I mean, how anyone is falling for this is just mindblowing. I would bet that Tom had this rant written for him and had his Scientology assistant record and release it. Hearing a rich actor with enormous power address his crew in this way is a sign of weakness and a deeply troubled person. This is not just a rant of another asshole actor. Tom Cruise pretending that he cares is why a few have called him out. They know this is a publicity stunt, they know what Tom really is and what Tom really believes.

She might be right that Scientology is just doing the right thing here to make themselves look good, but they are doing the right thing. There were reports at the beginning of the pandemic that David Miscaivage thought the pandemic was a hoax, and former Scientologist Remini added that in her experience Scientology treats illness as a personal moral failing. I don’t know about any of that, and I’m glad for the help even if it is disingenuous. I don’t really trust any religion but if they want to build their public reputation by doing good things and taking public safety seriously then by all means let them.
