Vanessa Bryant Just Found Out Evan Rachel Wood Called Kobe Bryant a Rapist and She’s Pissed

You can’t slander the dead. In the eyes of the law, the dead have no public reputation to uphold so you can say whatever you want about them with no consequences whatsoever.

When Kobe Bryant died, Evan Rachel Wood wasted no time taking advantage of this to call him a rapist in a tweet about his death. Like I doubt the body was even cold yet when she tweeted “What has happened is tragic. I am heartbroken for Kobe‘s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously.”

Kobe’s widow Vanessa just came across this tweet 13 months later and she was very much not happy about it, and expressed as much on her Instagram Story.

Your false, insensitive, defamatory and slanderous tweet on 1/26/20 is vile and disturbing to say the least? Behavior like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation doesn’t make someone guilty. YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE.

There’s a very famous book called To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee that you probably read in high school, with a plot that revolves around a false rape accusation leveled at a black man by a white woman. It basically has the same point as Bryant made, an accusation doesn’t make you guilty.

What did Kobe Bryant say about the case? In his own words:

Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.

It’s pretty complicated. People don’t half-confess to crimes, I really have no reason to doubt Kobe was being honest here.

I think we all have to look at that and decide if we think it means Kobe was a rapist or not. It’s pretty clear that having sex with someone who didn’t consent is rape, that’s the textbook definition. But no one else has accused Kobe Bryant of rape or anything of the sort. That’s a pretty horrific mistake to make, though. Definitely make sure you have consent before you have sex with someone.

But if you want to call Kobe a rapist, you can, and no one can stop you. You can also say he kidnapped the Lindbergh baby and thought 9-11 was funny. Or that he thought According to Jim was funny.
