Eminem’s New Song is About People Trying to Cancel Him, Which They Never Will

Cancel culture is all some people want to talk about, both people who hate it and people who love it, though the people who love it will usually claim it doesn’t exist. If you ask those people about it, they’ll probably tell you that it’s just people getting the deserved consequences for their actions.

That would be a lot more believable if people weren’t trying to cancel Eminem so much.

See, Eminem has put a lot of things in songs that you wouldn’t be surprised would get someone canceled; racism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia.

The issue is that those are all pretty far in the past. And in more recent times, he”s said he was wrong and he’s done better. So what is the point of canceling someone if not to get them to do that? If there’s no possible redemption then what is encouraging people to evolve?

Eminem wrote a song about it, ‘Tone Deaf’, because he’s a musician, what did you expect him to do? It includes the lyric “I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey (I’m tone-deaf) / ‘Cause they won’t stop until they cancel me.”

If you’re a regular person, getting canceled can ruin your life. If you’re a celebrity, though, all you have to do is not go away. We’re still watching Woody Allen movies and reading Harry Potter books and Chris Brown is still selling albums.

But the question is why are so many people spending so much energy trying to cancel someone who has pretty much disavowed what they’re trying to cancel him for and has done better, so to speak? It’s almost as if mobs of people just want to punish someone for something and spend too much time trying to find someone they can punish regardless of what it’s really called for.

But that’s crazy talk, right?
