Demi Lovato Was in Rehab For an Eating Disorder

In an article for Seventeen Magazine, Demi Lovato revealed that she wasn’t in rehab for anger issues but for an eating disorder. Eating disorders always get such a bad rap. Demi said,

“I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she’s worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything. Yes, there have been times when I definitely have been tempted to get rid of my dinner. But I will deal with it for the rest of my life because it’s a life-long disease. I don’t think there’s going to be a day when I don’t think about food or my body, but I’m living with it, and I wish I could tell young girls to find their safe place and stay with it.”

“If you are going through that dark period, go to your family and closest friends. Don’t put yourself in danger. It’s very crucial that you get your feelings out – but don’t ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred.”

“I don’t let anyone’s insecurities, emotions, or opinions bother me. I know that if I am happy, that’s all that matters to me. And it’s OK to be selfish like that sometimes, when it comes to your well-being. Do what makes you happy, and don’t care what others think.”

How overwhelmingly positive. If I could feel and if I was a little girl, I’d be inspired and touched but I’m not. I’m a guy with a blackened heart so whatever little piggy. Take your healthy attitude somewhere else. Like the buffet line.

Are you serious? Tell me you are joking because if you’re really that insensitive then someone needs to punch you in the mouth. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness. These are the statistics: One third of people with eating disorders will recover. One third will live with some semblance of the disease for the rest of their life. And the other third will die from complications. If you’d ever actually experienced the pain of watching someone slowly starve themselves to death- which believe me, is a nasty way to die- or had to listen to… Read more »

I agree, Demi’s “lucky enough to have the resources to get treatment”. Bu, she was also lucky enough to have enough money to HAVE a eating disorder.

Starving people do not puke up their lunches. Do you see anybody in third-world countries doing that?

Check the stats. America leads the world in eating disorder deaths. True, we have more people, but all the countries with eating disorder deaths are developed countries.

So, don’t defend Demi and instead, tell that fatty to stop boo-hooing in her chocolate mousse.

Chewy, you are so wrong. Eating disorders affect girls, boys, men, and women all over the world- 3rd world countries included. We are lucky to live in America, where there are resources to DO studies on eating disorders, but just because we are a developed country does not CAUSE eating disorders. Period.

Chewy, you need to get a grip on reality. Obviously you have never been exposed to anyone with an eating disorder. Sarahann1006 is dead on with their comments.

Take it from someone who’s struggled with an eating disorder, the fact that we have plenty of food and resources is not why we have an eating disorder. It’s because we’re unhappy with ourselves, the way we look, and the way others perceive us. I know personally, I felt like I wasn’t good enough and I needed to be “better” and my definition of “better” was to be smaller and skinnier. Stop being so insensitive. Until you’ve actually been in her shoes you have no right at all to judge her. Some people are secure in who they are, and… Read more »
