Iceland has one of the lowest crime rates in the world so it’s not hard to believe police there have never killed someone during an operation. Until today.
According to reports, a 59-year-old man came home drunk at 11 PM. At around 12:30 AM, the man began shooting at cars from his balcony. Police arrived on scene at around 4 AM firing tear gas canisters through the windows to subdue the man when he failed to respond and continued shooting.
This didn’t work. Special forces went in and were met with gunfire. Two were injured by shotgun fire. One in the face, the other in the hand. Police ended up shooting the guy. He was taken to the hospital at around 7 AM where he died.
A neighbor said about the man, “Some nights he kicks cars. Sometimes he throws things from the balcony and yells at children.”
10 people and possibly one cat will be provided with traumatic-counseling.
