In an article about Ellen Page’s coming out, the Guardian mistakenly outed Sir Patrick Stewart.
This article was amended on 17 February 2014. The third paragraph originally said ‘Some gay people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page’s coming out speech is newsworthy’. This should have read ‘Some people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page’s coming out speech is newsworthy’.
In response, Patrick Stewart clarified he’s totally hetero. Some of his best friends are hetero and they eat wings and drink beer like heteros are known to do.
.@Poynter But @guardian I have, like, five or even SEVEN hetero friends and we totally drink beer and eat lots of chicken wings!

The mistake was probably made because he’s always hanging out with Sir Ian McKellen. They just assumed he was gay too.
MT “@Gruaig_Rua: @Poynter Silly @guardian. You can't catch gay by hanging out with #LGBT people."

Nuh uh. A friend of a friend of a friend of an uncle’s friend totally hung out with a LGBT person once and he totally caught the gay. Now he’s a flaming homosexual.
Granted, there was a silver lining in all this.
Well, @guardian it makes for a nice change…at least I didn't wake up to the internet telling me I was dead again.
