As Promised, Here Are The New Characters For ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2

This summer we were graced with the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things. In no particular order, we already fell in love with Dustin, Eleven, Will (did we??? idk), Mike and Lucas. But there’s more room in our hearts. As promised, three new–yet to be cast–characters are set to appear in the 9-episode long second season.

[Spoiler alert!] Set a year after the return of Will and the slaying of the monster, our favorite kids will be joined by multi-generational characters, Max, Billy and Roman.

Let’s meet Max. She’s a 13-year-old girl with a penchant for tomboy activities. She skates from place to place (unlike the bikes of the other kids) and she’s tough as nails. She hasn’t had the easiest go of it and doesn’t share much about her past. And she comes into scope with her 17-year-old stepbrother, Billy.

Billy is the town tough guy. The kids have heard that he could have killed someone and with muscles like his, it’s totally believable. He breaks up couples and steals girlfriends for the fun of it. He slugs beer with the best of them. But he’s as complicated as Max. He easily finds himself violent especially toward his younger sister and other children smaller than him.

Then there’s Roman, who at somewhere between ages 30 and 38, will join the less talked about older cast of characters. Roman’s character is less defined by gender. But after having grown up with a drug-addled mother and having lost close friends (maybe family) throughout life, Roman finds it difficult to connect with people. Revenge is on his/her mind.

The depth of this show is mind-blowing. It pulls on age old archetypes and suspense tropes, but somehow keeps itself from being cheesy. I don’t know if Stranger Things makes me want to be a kid again or gives me hope that I could raise a child to somehow save the world from an evil portal monster.
