Lena Dunham Wishes She Had an Abortion, Proves Again She Lives in a Hipster Fairy World Out of Touch With Humanity

Lena Dunham is the kind of feminist figure that makes everyone hate feminists and chubby people. As a chubby feminist (save your “is there any other kind” comments for another time), I am perfectly fine with saying that Lena Dunham really needs to shut the f**k up if she’s going to say ridiculous s**t like this.

On her Women of the Hour podcast, Lena spoke of a time she visited a Planned Parenthood in Texas when she was asked to join a project about sharing women’s stories of abortion.

Lena was taken aback by the request because she’s never had an abortion. She then spends a little too much time reiterating that she has never had an abortion.

“‘I haven’t had an abortion,’ I told her. I wanted to make it really clear to her that as much as I was going out and fighting for other women’s options, I myself had never had an abortion,” Lena said. “Even I, the woman who cares as much as anybody about a woman’s right to choose, felt it was important that people know I was unblemished in this department.”

Her choice of the word “unblemished” is probably a comically exaggerated turn of phrase, though it’s pretty condescending to allude to anyone who has had an abortion as “blemished.”

She goes on to somehow make these statements all the worse by stating, “Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.”

Oh Christ, girl. How did that come out of your mouth without an immediate apology?

I’m sure she doesn’t mean she’s sad she missed out on all the fun of joining the abortion club, but rather that she wishes she could gain a greater understanding of women who’ve dealt with such a hard decision. But she needs to say that, not I wish I had an abortion.

People are Twitter were obviously mad, since Lena made an abortion sound like a backpacking trip to Europe after high school.

So, once again Lena Dunham is only a feminist when it comes to having average looking people get the opportunity to be naked on television, but has no empathy for people who are actively being affected by the pro-choice movement.

It doesn’t really do any good to say how strong a woman you are or how much you support girl power when that only really applies to making occasional TV shows with other white ladies.

I’m glad Lena gets to make TV shows, it’s hard work being a female showrunner and she’s done an admirable job. But if she’s going to remain an ignorant, self-absorbed child, she can quit pretending she speaks for all women.
