Pierce Brosnan Might Be Cable in ‘Deadpool 2,’ Rumor Based on Single Photo

Looks like a former Bond might be getting into the superhero game.

Ryan Reynolds posted a picture on Instagram of himself, Hugh Jackman, and Pierce Brosnan, spurring rumors that Brosnan might be playing Cable in the upcoming Deadpool 2. Kyle Chandler of Bloodline and Friday Night Lights has also been rumored to have though role, though no official casting has been announced.

Whoever plays Cable, the actor will have a lot less backstory to memorize since they’ll be slightly simplifying the character.

For those of you who haven’t memorized every mutant in the Marvel universe, Cable is a time traveling mutant, son of X-Men leader Cyclops, who’s infected with a lethal techno-organic virus. He travels to the future to try to survive before going back to the present as a bounty hunter.

Since that backstory is crazy as f**k, they’ve decided to cut it almost entirely. Producer Kyle Wernick said “So with Cable, he’s got such a convoluted past, and such a convoluted origin story that I think we’re going to try to leave that, not mysterious, but there are a lot of twists and turns, cloning and all this stuff where you go, ‘Oh my God. How do we get that across in a two-hour movie?’ ”

Though I have no problem with Cable just being some weird strong dude, I also don’t know dick about the Marvel Universe and some true fans could be upset by the simplification.

Either way, Deadpool 2 is scheduled to start shooting in June and Cable will probably be played by somebody entirely different since the rumors thus far have had pretty thin ground to stand on.
