‘Top Gun 2’ Is Never Gonna Happen

Top Gun 2 is never happening.

Paramount announced that the film has been pushed back to 2020 in order to “give filmmakers the opportunity to work out the logistics of presenting flight sequences with new technology and planes.”

Next year around this time, even more new technology will become available and they’ll push the movie back another year. Just make the film you cowards. Tom Cruise isn’t getting any younger and Val Kilmer was supposed to die like two years ago according to Michael Douglas.

The movie was scheduled to release ten years ago when Val Kilmer first brought it up in search of maintaining Hollywood relevancy. It finally started looking like a real possibility this year when Tom Cruiser and Kilmer were both on board. They announced Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, and Monica Barbaro as part of the cast. JON HAMM AND ED HARRIS, PEOPLE!

Miles Teller, playing Goose’s son, was attached to the film as the new lead. Everything was looking good for a July 12, 2019 release. We were so close we could taste the beach volleyball sweat. Less than a year away.

And now this.

Top Gun 2 is the Detox of the movie industry. It sounds good on paper. Everyone, including those involved with the project, tell you it’s going to happen. And then it gets delayed. And delayed again. And delayed once more. Until finally, Tom Cruise decides to do Mission Impossible: Air Warfare and we just pretend it’s Top Gun 2.
