Pete Davidson Is Joking About Suicide Now

Pete Davidson has had a rough several months after breaking up with ex-fiancee, Ariana Grande. Last month, Davidson posted a disturbing comment on Instagram that indicated that he was seriously contemplating suicide. Davidson has never hidden his struggles with mental health, but this message certainly alarmed many. But after taking a break from SNL, he seems to be doing a lot better as he appeared on SNL’s Weekend Update this past Saturday night.

Davidson was joined by his friend, comedian John Mulaney on Weekend Update where they discussed the latest Clint Eastwood movie, The Mule. But they weren’t afraid to discuss Davidson’s recovery.

When Weekend Update host Colin Jost inquired about the two’s friendship, saying he didn’t know that the two hung out, Mulaney said:

“We do, but a lot of times it looks like I’m Pete’s lawyer.” “For real, I’ve been spending a lot of time with Pete to try to show him that you can have a life in comedy that is not insane, a sober, domestic life.”

For those of you who didn’t know, John Mulaney is, in indeed sober and often includes this fact into his stand-up shows.

Pete Davidson then added:

“Yeah, and after observing John’s life, I publicly threatened suicide. I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t make that joke, but it is funny.”

I thought that was the most awesome joke of the night. Many might be taken aback by that kind of a joke, but honestly, it definitely sounds healthy. I’m sure Pete Davidson has been at one of the lowest points in his life, so I can totally see the need to laugh even if it’s about a really dark subject that makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Sometimes a sense of humor can mean the difference between complete despair and survival. So, good on Davidson for reminding us that it’s okay to joke about our own pain one in a while. And good for Mulaney for being a true friend who sticks by someone when they’re having a hard time.

I can’t decide: When Asseyes does kill himself, should I jerk off, throw a party, get drunk in celebration, or walk three?
