Nic Cage is Playing ‘Tiger King’s’ Joe Exotic, So It’s Sure to be Either Great or Terrible

Composite

We’re all about to really sick of Tiger King and it’s star Joe Exotic. I mean, more than we already are because is anyone else just ready for everyone to shut up about that dude forever?

I mean, I get the appeal, it’s like We Bought a Zoo was also Joe Dirt and a little bit Mr. Bean. There are tigers, gay rednecks and just abject incompetence from everyone except the lady who probably fed her husband to her animals Kingsman-style.

We’re getting not just one but two scripted TV series based on the Netflix docuseries and it’s principle characters. We already know Kate McKinnon is producing a series based on the story of Joe Exotic, but Variety reported today that Nicolas Cage is attached to Star as Exotic in a competing adaptation that is bound to be much, much better than McKinnon’s. It’s also Cage’s first ever role as a cast member on a TV series.

The eight-episode series is being produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. It will be taken to market in the coming days. It is based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.

I love the weird ways people have gotten the rights to do a show based on this dumb story. If anyone would like to do a story about how they’re tired of hearing about Tiger King, contact me to buy the movie rights to this article.

As for why I’m convinced this is going to be better than the other adaptation, that’s easy: Dan Lagana. Lagana was the show runner on American Vandal, the best mockumentary since This is Spinal Tap. This is the secret sauce, and if your show is half as good as American Vandal, I’m watching it. In fact, forget Tiger King altogether, just watch American Vandal again.
