Kobe Bryant’s Widow Vanessa is Fighting With Her Mom Over Money

They say money can’t buy you happiness, which seems insane because not having to worry about bills would make most people much happier. The problem is that people who have money mostly seem to care about getting more money; what exactly does Jeff Bezos need more money for, anyway? You’d think at a certain point he’d go “really, I couldn’t spend all this money if I lived to be 500, I should pay my employees better and hire more people so they don’t have work like they’re building the pyramids” but nope, it’s just “f**k you, more money for me, lower taxes please.”

Vanessa Bryant’s mother, Sofia Laine, also wants more money. She gave an interview on Univision’s El Gorda y La Flaca where she said that after Kobe’s death, Vanessa kicked her out of her house, took her car and left her with nothing.

Vanessa Bryant tells a very different story, with news, com.au reporting she issued the following statement to the program after the segment aired:

My husband and daughter passed away unexpectedly, and yet my mother had the audacity to do a television interview speaking negatively of me while shedding tears for a car and a house that were not in her name.

She has removed all her diamond jewellery, emptied the apartment I provided, and put away the furniture to make it look like she doesn’t have my support. My husband and I have supported her financially for the past 20 years, and continue to do so, in addition to her monthly alimony.

Contrary to previous reports, she has not been physically present or emotionally supportive of my daughters and me after my husband and daughter passed away.

Now I see what is most important to my mother and it’s more than painful. I hope that everything that is coming out about our personal relationship ends here.

So I’ve got two thoughts on that, and the first one is it sounds like she did take back a car from her mother for whatever reason, and I’m not going speculate on why.

My second thought, however, is that why would Kobe be the one who wanted to financially support his mother-in-law? That makes no sense. When I first saw this story I assumed that it was Kobe’s mother saying Vanessa was cutting her off, not Vanessa’s mother. I don’t know what Vanessa Bryant’s mother did to piss her off if this is even remotely true, but it must have been something huge.
