Disney Revealed a Model of Star Wars Land at D23

At this week’s 2017 D23 Expo, Disney gave us our first glimpse at the upcoming Star Wars Land attraction in the form of a 50 foot scale model. The attraction, set on a newly-designed world on the outskirts of of the galaxy, is being constructed in both Anaheim’s Disneyland and Orlando’s Disney World.

Guests of Star Wars Land will have the opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon and join a battle between the Resistance and the First Order. You can also just wander around the 14 acre attraction and immerse yourself in the world of Star Wars. The attraction is primarily aimed at children but, like Universal Studios’ The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it will also be open to sad adults.

Disney also held the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony at D23, honoring, among others, the late Carrie Fisher (who was also nominated for an Emmy this week) and her on-screen brother Mark Hamill. After the ceremony, Hamill was asked if we might see a Young Luke Skywalker movie to go along with the upcoming Young Han Solo film. Hamill seemed a bit bemused by the question, seeing as how that’s what Star Wars is. Here’s his reply, courtesy of Fandango:

Star Wars Land is expected to open to the public in 2019, just in time to cash in on the hype for Star Wars Episode IX. When it opens, you’ll be able to buy overpriced Star Wars themed food and drink for the whole family. It’s just probably not a great place to bring your girlfriend. You know, unless you’re sick of her but you don’t want to be the one to say it’s over. If that’s the case, a trip to Star Wars Land for your fifth anniversary just might do the trick.
